PEACE AND RECONCILIATIONS

DIALOGUE

Community dialogue plays a crucial role in peace initiatives, serving as a platform for individuals from diverse backgrounds to come together and share their perspectives. By fostering open communication, community dialogue encourages understanding and empathy, which are essential for peace building. Through structured discussions and collaborative problem-solving, participants can address grievances, identify common goals, and develop strategies to promote harmony within their neighborhoods. Engaging in these dialogues not only helps to heal past wounds but also empowers community members to take active roles in creating a more peaceful and inclusive society.

ADVOCACY

SSWU is actively encouraging South Sudanese leaders to choose humanity before politics and peace not war and to engage women, youth, the church and the Diaspora in the peace and development process.

LEARNING

SSWU seeks to provide opportunities for South Sudanese to learn from various experts about how to more effectively build strong communities and lasting peace. With a grant from Humanity United, SSWU purchased and distributed 2,000 copies of The Book of Forgiving by Desmond and Mpho Tutu in Juba to community, political and religious leaders and to NGOs, universities and civil society organizations.  The book is serving as a common, perhaps even uniting, tool for South Sudanese, South Sudanese are looking for solutions that work, and this book, by a respected African elder who has a proven track record, provides a new way of responding to grievances so that South Sudanese have choices and control over their own lives rather than being dependent on traditions that perpetuate conflict rather than peace.

Peace and Reconciliations

South Sudan, a nation that has endured decades of civil war, has seen a staggering number of its citizens displaced. Approximately 2.4 million people have been uprooted within the country, while another 2.3 million have sought refuge in neighboring nations.

Inter-communal violence, coupled with attacks by community-based armed groups, has significantly escalated insecurity in South Sudan. This has led to a surge in cattle raiding, revenge killings, and resource competition, triggering violent clashes and resulting in a high number of civilian casualties.

Both local and international rights groups have documented serious violations of human rights and injustices.

Our organization has been at the forefront of supporting numerous community-based peacebuilding initiatives in South Sudan. These initiatives are designed to foster reconciliation, promote the rule of law, good governance, and justice, and facilitate healing and societal transformation.

South Sudan Women United is a nonprofit 501(C)(3) organization with EIN/Tax # 99-0437150 All donations are Tax-deductible
