Girls Education Campaign
In South Sudan, 51.5% of women aged 20–24 years old are married before they reach the age of 18. In 2008, the birthrate amongst adolescent stood at 158.1 per 1,000 women aged 15-19. Education remains inaccessible for women and girls due to poverty, conflict, and traditional practices values harmful to women and girls.
It is estimated that enrollment of girls in primary schools is low compared to boys. We believe that giving girls equal opportunities to pursue education, will empower young women to have healthier families, employment, and higher standards of living.
SSWU collaborates with other partners who believe in the value of education to create awareness among communities by encouraging parents and caregivers to send their children to school.
We strive to engage other actors by advocating for more resource allocation by governments and well-wishers to mitigate challenges facing the education of the girlchild in South Sudan.
