Women Empowerment

The overwhelming majority South Sudanese, about 82% of the population endure poverty, surviving on less than $1.90 per day with nearly 80% residing in rural areas.

48.6 per cent of all households in South Sudan are headed by female who experience poverty due to detrimental social norms, and limited access to education, productive assets and resources.

To address this problem, a women-led organization, SSWU has committed itself to poverty eradication among marginalized women and girls in various communities of South Sudan.

We work with poor women who are survivors of war and sexual gender-based violence by providing relevant skills development and support to help them transform their lives.  We also advocate for conducive and enabling environment for women to actively participate in social, economic and political development in South Sudan.  Our creed is, no woman should be left to suffer.
