Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Program
Handwashing: A Core Element of Our WASH Programs
At South Sudan Women United (SSWU), we recognize handwashing as a cornerstone of our WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) programs and a powerful tool in protecting community health. Handwashing with soap is a simple yet highly effective way to prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, and respiratory infections — illnesses that continue to affect many families across South Sudan.
Through our WASH initiatives, SSWU promotes regular handwashing at key times — before eating or preparing food, after using the toilet, and after handling waste or caring for others. We work closely with communities to increase access to clean water, provide soap, and establish handwashing facilities in schools, health centers, and public gathering spaces.
By empowering individuals with knowledge and resources to practice good hygiene, we help reduce disease transmission, improve school attendance, and enhance the well-being of entire communities.
At SSWU, we believe that promoting handwashing is more than a health intervention — it is an investment in dignity, resilience, and a healthier future for all.
💧 Clean Hands, Healthy Lives.

Health Awareness in our schools
Promoting Hygiene Among School Children
South Sudan Women United (SSWU) is dedicated to improving hygiene practices among school children as part of our WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) programs. By teaching children the importance of handwashing and personal hygiene, we help build healthy habits that last a lifetime and create ripple effects throughout their families and communities.
SSWU supports schools by conducting hygiene education sessions, providing soap and clean water, and setting up child-friendly handwashing stations. These efforts reduce absenteeism caused by preventable illnesses and create safer, more supportive learning environments.
Through our WASH initiatives in schools, SSWU is nurturing a generation of young leaders who understand that clean hands and safe hygiene mean healthy futures.
💧 Clean Hands, Bright Futures.

Community Participation
Promoting Hygiene in Gorome Camp
As part of our ongoing WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) initiatives, South Sudan Women United (SSWU) is working with refugees in Gorome Camp to improve hygiene practices and strengthen community health.
Through hygiene awareness sessions, the distribution of soap and cleaning materials, and the establishment of handwashing stations, SSWU empowers refugee families to adopt safe hygiene behaviors. These efforts help prevent the spread of waterborne and communicable diseases while promoting dignity and well-being in the camp.
Our work in Gorome Camp is part of SSWU’s broader commitment to improving WASH access across South Sudan — ensuring that every community, including displaced and host populations, can live in a clean and healthy environment.
💧 Together, we are fostering healthier and more resilient communities.

Practice Good Hygiene Habits
At South Sudan Women United (SSWU), we believe handwashing is more than a hygiene habit — it’s a life-saving practice. Through our WASH programs, we’re helping communities across South Sudan access clean water, soap, and handwashing stations in schools, health centers, and public spaces.
Together, we can prevent disease, protect families, and build healthier, more resilient communities.
