EDUCATION
Girls Education Campaign
In South Sudan, 51.5% of women aged 20–24 years old are married before they reach the age of 18. In 2008, the birthrate amongst adolescent stood at 158.1 per 1,000 women aged 15-19. Education remains inaccessible for women and girls due to poverty, conflict, and traditional practices values harmful to women and girls.
It is estimated that enrollment of girls in primary schools is low compared to boys. We believe that giving girls equal opportunities to pursue education, will empower young women to have healthier families, employment, and higher standards of living.
SSWU collaborates with other partners who believe in the value of education to create awareness among communities by encouraging parents and caregivers to send their children to school.
We strive to engage other actors by advocating for more resource allocation by governments and well-wishers to mitigate challenges facing the education of the girlchild in South Sudan.

Empowering Youth Through Life Skills Training at SSWU WGSP
At the South Sudan Women United Women & Girls Safe Space (SSWU WGSP), we believe that youth are the foundation of strong, resilient communities. Through our Youth Empowerment Project, we are equipping young people with life skills such as welding—skills that build confidence, open career pathways, and foster independence.

Why Life Skills Training Matters
Life skills training like welding goes beyond technical knowledge. It prepares young people for real-world opportunities and challenges by:
- Building confidence – Youth gain pride in their craft and the courage to pursue meaningful careers.
- Enhancing problem-solving – Welding projects demand creativity, precision, and critical thinking.
- Teaching teamwork – Working on group projects strengthens communication and collaboration.
- Promoting resilience – Practical training equips youth to adapt to a changing job market.
- Improving well-being – Hands-on skills provide a sense of competence and self-worth.

Breaking Barriers: Inclusivity in Trades
At SSWU WGSP, we are committed to engaging both girls and boys in vocational training, challenging stereotypes, and opening doors in industries where women are often underrepresented. By creating a safe and supportive learning environment, we ensure that every young person has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.

Preparing for the Future
With thousands of welding jobs opening globally each year, these skills directly align with labor market needs. Our program provides youth with:
- Direct pathways to employment through certifications and practical training.
- Opportunities for entrepreneurship by empowering youth to start their own businesses.
- Support for vulnerable youth, offering a stable path toward independence and dignity.
